Okay, here’s this week’s hastily recorded entry. I’m super busy this week, but I’m trying to maintain my commitment to keeping this update weekly!

This last week has been a little rough. Here are the updates:

  • Nerd Nite Tokyo
    • Great speakers
    • New intern Dzavid’s first day
      • He is quietly competent
    • Audience back to numbers that make the event financially sustainable
      • Unlike shows, this event is explicitly a fundraiser
    • Lots of technical problems
  • Updates on the YTG winter show
    • Two rehearsals since last update
    • We continue to work on new ideas
    • We didn’t get into the 1F studio to work on lights and effects this week
    • Rehearsal room work is getting hard– dynamic is messed up without another experienced deviser in the room full-time
    • MORE bad news that I received the morning after recording that I’ll talk about next week.
  • Podcasting
    • No time to edit Wayward Readers for the last two weeks
    • Haven’t found new co-host for Does It Hold Up yet
  • Other
    • Our venue, JDS is doing a kids show and I’m enlisted to do lights
      • Spent Wednesday setting things up
        • Set people working in same space made it take longer than it should
      • Back on Friday for programming and rehearsal
      • Performances Sat and Sun
      • Basically like an added tech week a month before my tech week
    • Still working on cover letter and resume for that big job I’m chasing
    • Not enough time to get everything done!

Some shots from this week’s rehearsals and yesterday’s JDS light hang (taken by me or Tatjana). (To view photos, please view the show notes on the website, using a browser. I’m pretty sure they won’t show up properly in the notes sections on most podcast players.)

In the podcast, I also talk about one of the things that I think makes YTG valuable and worth preserving: we are the stop of last resort for a lot of interns. This is connected to our culture of inclusion and how we try to say yes to people joining our team.

Okay, I think that’s it. Andrew out.
