I forgot to mention in the recording that I went to Dr Whom’s 30th anniversary party last Sunday and took some good photos. I’ve attached a couple here. YTG Updates:
Jekyll and Hyde Mainstage
- Two rehearsals this week, Monday and Thursday, plus a tech rehearsal on Wednesday
- New intern Kendal and Adrianna have joined
- On Monday we worked on story ideas, which I think was premature
- On Thursday we turned it around and did some performance art exercises
- I’ve come up with more story ideas and a flow chart for the first line
- Trying to come up with ideas that reflect the themes of hidden and systemic violence and how that’s viewed differently than other types of violence and yet can be expressed simply with stage images and movement
- Wednesday we did some more work creating projection and lighting images.
- The ensemble didn’t send anything in so we created three of my ideas.
- Posted some photos in the show notes. You’ll have to jump through to the website to read them.
- I need to push everyone to do the required reading and install the required software

Other
- The flamenco show that YTG is providing lighting for is this Sunday.
- Am also now providing video recording (new intern Kendal for whom it will be good practice)
- This involves going into JDS late Saturday to pull lights and cable and then going back stupidly early on Sunday morning to transport lights etc to the venue
Life Updates
- Mike was not well this week, so I went back to my usual curriculum for the university classes
- Last week was my 19th Japaniversary (20 years in Japan) and I was too busy to do anything. Next year I definitely want to have a party or something.
- My daily driver laptop, an early 2015 Macbook, is slowly becoming too slow
- I am dying for just some time to THINK creatively, to daydream, to doodle, and to document those daydreams and doodles. I would love to have 4 hours a week where someone just paid me to come up with ideas and I would be banned from doing arts admin work during that time. It would need to pay enough that I could put urgent tasks off to do it.
- I carve about 40 – 60 minutes each week for this podcast, plus another 20 – 60 if I rewrite a poem or something to read/re-read here
- It’s great to produce something each week, but I need to have time that doesn’t need to be productive.
- Looking into booking my tickets to Canada this winter
- The big jobs I applied for have not contacted me, or replied to my follow-up emails
- Just usual NPO bad organization?
- Parent Teacher Interview this afternoon
