Update #27: Head Goes Boom

Drawing of Andrew's head cracking open and shapes, etc. pouring out. Meanwhile, he grimaces and sweats in discomfort.

Oh, and I always forget something: all 7 of Hammy’s beetle larva have now emerged as adults. 4 male and 3 female rhinoceros beetles.

YTG Updates:

Jekyll and Hyde Mainstage

  • One rehearsal since last update, since I’m recording this on Wednesday
  • We kept hacking away at things on Monday, doing some get-to-know you stuff and a few thematic exercises
  • We did a drawing exercise, which led me to produce the cover for this week’s podcast. The assignment was “draw how you see yourself.” Click through to the website via the show notes if you want to see it
    • I feel like I’m so full of ideas and things I want to create but I have to contain them because of time constraints and being forced to focus on other stuff most of the time
  • Example: need to get the annual report documents in for YTG, which involves math for the financial statements and additional stress tracking down what documents and how many I have to send where
    • I need a BUDGET so I can PAY someone who knows how to do this properly to do this properly.
  • No Wednesday rehearsal this week since the hula ladies are in
  • I came up with a bunch of scene ideas, but there are too many. However, I plan to get the group to start creating images for the ones that inspire them this week
  • Our ticketing provider that we’ve been using has started getting shitty
    • Am now trying to find a new provider that AT LEAST lets us pass along the platform fees (because they ALL have platform fees) to the customers, which means our prices are going to go up by 4% or so.
    • Have not found one that properly handles a) JPY, and b) multiple dates for a show without hacks
      • I really hate to pay for something I have to do a workaround to get it to work
      • Actual theatre ticket providers are a bit shit, especially the ones available here
    • This is what is keeping the website and box office page from going up right now.

Nerd Nite

  • No updates

Podcasts

  • Still need to check Kate’s edits

Other

  • Provided lighting and video for the flamenco show this past weekend
  • Gig paid out 20,000 yen
  • We lost a lighting system adapter that costs more than that

Life Updates

  • Forgot to mention Duncan Whom’s party for his 30th anniversary with his partner Neil in last week’s recording. I brought my camera and was the official unofficial photographer for the evening.
    • Lots of great drag acts
    • Pole dancing
    • Etc.
    • More photos posted this week
    • Some great stuff to add to my portfolio when I get through processing it
  • Mike sick again, so I started my students on their final project, which is the first scene of King Lear. Probably without the Elizabethan text.
  • Like I’ve been saying for a few weeks now, I really need to find a way to clear the decks and just GET PAID to do what I do best, which is not website building, or report writing, or book-keeping, but making fucking art.
