In this update, I talk about some inexpensive audio upgrades I made (repurposed some old speakers, got an inexpensive amp and subwoofer, ditched the terminally ill PC speakers, and got a used audio interface for the mic), as well as giving updates about next week’s show, INTERFERENCE | ИНТЕРФЕРЕНЦИЯ! You should definitely check it out if you’re able. We are live-streaming, as usual, so you can watch online if you’re not in the Kawasaki area. We’re performing at very weird times for us so that there’s at least one show convenient to every time zone. I did this for you! Please grab a ticket at https://ytg.jp/interference. If funds are tight, please use the code BETHEAUDIENCE for a 100% discount. Selling tickets is great, and it’s gratifying for people to buy tickets to see my work, but I don’t want money to stand between you and the show! I want your eyes! (To watch the show, I mean, not for a collection or anything weird like that.)

I have just a few updates about Anxiety, but things have really moved since I recorded, so I’ll have some more news about that soon. Assuming my annual pollen allergies don’t kill me first.

Just a heads-up that I’ll probably have to record next week’s update from the theatre, so be prepared for a precipitous drop in sound quality.

  • INTERFERENCE
    • Barbara has broken the show down into three scenes.
      • In addition, we have a presentation on Kabakov and an introductory puppet scene using
      • The three scenes are: the murder of Uncle Serezha, Barbara and Marko as disembodied voices, and Lilya and Mayakovski going to Eden
    • This week, we dealt with a number of technical issues on Tuesday, before proceeding with rehearsing the two scenes that have actual acting in them.
    • For the Mayakovski scene, I will be reading a poem directed to the sun. In Russian. Which I don’t speak, and am reading phonetically off a piece of paper. So that should be interesting! Luckily my only dialogue line that has to be memorized is a single word: “pochemu”
      • (My first line starts with the exclamation “SLAZ!”, which is the reason for the title of this week’s update)
    • This is all full-tilt next week. We will have to properly rehearse EVERYTHING next week during production week.
      • I fully expect to spend 10+ hours at the space every day
      • I’ll be rotating everyone else out.
      • My big job over the next two days is scheduling
  • ANXIETY
    • Money has been transferred and arrived. The first half of the payment is complete!
    • Going to go all-in on casting the show after INTERFERENCE is done.
