Wide angle shot of a boy walking along a beach.

You could be forgiven that my pursuit of photography these days is becoming limited to taking pictures of my son on the beach.

The truth is, I’m not currently able to set aside the time to do an exclusive photo walk on my own, and Hammy isn’t interested enough in photography to do one with me. So I’ve got to work in my need to take photos around wherever life takes me, and these days Hammy is obsessed with collecting stones and practicing his rock-skipping skills. Hence: beach.

This is the beach at Tsukuihama, near Miura beach, far at the southern end of the Keikyu line. Luckily, it was a much more colourful day than the day at Chigasaki the other week. I am a portraits guy, so there are lots of shots of Hammy, of course, but I did find a few other things to draw my attention, including a bicycle pedal sticking up out of the sand (it was in there pretty firmly, so the impression was that there is a bicycle buried there as well), the water itself, and some pallets.

I did bring the new 7.5mm lens with me, but I also shot with the 35mm, a Soviet-era 58mm, and a weird pinhole lens I unwisely bought from Kickstarter a few years ago (those are the blurry shots that look like I took them with a spy camera). You can only use a pinhole camera on a very bright day, and to get a usable shutter speed, I had to bump the ISO up to over 5000, so this “lens” doesn’t get used much. But it is fun to play around with– I’d like to try shooting video with it some time. I think it will give a real 8mm film vibe.

Hope you enjoy these!
