Not as many shots this week, I’m afraid. I was sick at the end of last week and it rolled over into the beginning of this week. I dropped into rehearsal first thing Monday morning to open the door and greet the two new ensemble members, Victrola and Cortez, before rushing out to see my doctor.
I joined the afternoon rehearsal via Zoom, which was a very frustrating experience because I also hadn’t been involved in planning the rehearsal (the group had met on Saturday to plan, and I wasn’t able to attend).
On Tuesday night, on my way back from my university teaching job, I met with Clara, Flavia, and Kaito, three of the six of us who will actually be in town and likely to perform in the show to get caught up and plan Wednesday’s rehearsal.
Wednesday got off to a late start (there have been a rash of train issues this spring and summer; no idea why it’s so bad), but we did our warmup and got into some work on in the afternoon. Some interesting things happened in the rehearsal, but I think we’ve due for a change in how we work, and it looks like the others agreed. When Kaito, Clara, Flavia, and I met again on Thursday, we decided that maybe its time to refocus the part of rehearsals we’re building the play from on the performers who will be here for the show (the four of us, plus Merritt and Jana). There’s a lot of extra stuff to do, and it may be time to start specializing a little bit.
Looking forward to this coming week!
We said goodbye this past week to Alexis (Monday) and Sahana (Wednesday, pictured above). We’ve got two more goodbyes before the show, and it’s always tough.
The show is going up August 17 and 18 both in-person and live on the internet (with recordings available for those who can’t watch it live). No showtimes are set yet, since this is a collectively created piece and we have no idea what the running time will be yet. However, if you want tickets, there are a few ways to make sure you get them.
- Go to the YTG crowdfunding website at https://sponsor.ytg.jp and make a donation of any amount. You’ll get a notice closer to the show date.
- Be on my mailing list (you can join it below), and buy the tickets when the show dates are announced.
- Be on my mailing list and email or message me a for a free ticket if you need one!
If you want to follow along through the creation process, I will try to post weekly updates here on this website (these posts will be sent out to mailing list members as well).
